From a Small Garage to One of Upstate New York's Largest Showrooms
Our story began in 1963 when Ed "Big Ed" Kahl founded the company from his home on South Lake Street in the Village of Hamburg. Operating out of a small garage, Big Ed built the business one customer at a time through hard work, honest service, and a reputation people could trust.
In the early 1970s, Jeff Kuhn joined the company as an installer. As the business continued to grow, Jeff and his wife, Donna, expanded operations from their own property in Hamburg, where garage door parts were stored in the family basement and customers browsed doors from a modest garage showroom.
In 1989, Jeff and Donna purchased the company and renamed it Hamburg Overhead Door. Over the next several years, they expanded the business throughout the region, acquiring and merging several local competitors while maintaining the hometown values that had defined the company from the beginning.
As demand continued to grow, Hamburg Overhead Door moved to its current Hermon Hill Road location in 2000, opening a 40,000-square-foot warehouse with significantly expanded inventory and a dedicated showroom.
In 2016, the showroom was expanded once again and today features more than 25 garage doors, making it the largest garage door showroom in Upstate New York.
In November 2020, Jennifer and Jason Kuhn became the third generation of leadership, continuing the family tradition of serving customers with integrity, professionalism, and pride.
